The PNG Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of Australian rugby league international Zac Lomax, who becomes signing #005 for the club’s inaugural NRL season in 2028.

Lomax, who has played 133 NRL games since his first-grade debut, will join the Chiefs at the conclusion of his current rugby union contract with the Western Force. 

A Temora Dragons junior who featured for Australian Schoolboys and NSW junior representative sides, Lomax made his NRL debut for the Dragons in 2018 – going on to score 49 tries and kick 315 goals in his 114 appearances for the club.

After being named in the 2024 Dally M Team of the Year in his final season with the Dragons, he joined the Eels in 2025, where he scored nine tries in 19 games.

The 26-year-old has made six Origin appearances for New South Wales (2024-25), scoring six tries and helping the Blues to a series win, and made three Test appearances for the Kangaroos at the 2024 Pacific Championships.

Lomax joins representative players Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston, Connor Watson and Matty Lees as the Chiefs’ confirmed signings so far ahead of their debut season – highlighting the club’s intent in delivering success for Papua New Guinea.

PNG Chiefs General Manager – Football Michael Chammas said that Lomax would make a significant contribution to the team moving forward.

“Zac is clearly a tremendous talent and a player that has achieved a high level of success already in his career,” Chammas said.

“His ability to contribute at an elite level in a number of positions, as well as goal-kicking, is a fantastic thing for our roster, and we are delighted in his desire to contribute to bringing success to the Chiefs.

“We wish him the best over the next 16 months as he chases his dream of playing for the Wallabies and we look forward to him featuring in our colours in 2028.”
